When God is Your Ghostwriter

When God is Your Ghostwriter

I’m having a hard time waiting out these last two days before publishing my newest book, How to Be a Moon.  I’ve edited till my eyes are bleary, sorted through feedback to create a book cover I finally like, and now I’m just a click or two away from the world having (possibly too much!) access to my soul story of finding worth and reflecting God.

I’m also a little bit in panic mode because I agreed to do ALL THE THINGS, (like guest blog and speak at my church this month) and the hours in my day seem to be leaking out of a fissure I haven’t been able to locate.

But today I was reminded that I started this mission of book writing in God, and I’ll finish it by HIS power and Spirit, not in my own strength.

Philippians 1:6 reminds me that “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…”  And how very like God to smile on my weakness this morning by sending Jeremiah 32:17 to my inbox: “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”

Thank God it’s all up to Him to complete what He started because I just can’t do it on my own.

Earlier this year I felt like God was calling me to step into His promises.  I felt He didn’t want me to sit passively waiting for Him to show up, but to actively participate WITH Him.  I’ve come alive creating with Him, and I believe I’ve brought Him joy in the process.

But God never meant for me to accomplish His will without Him.

The term “ghostwriter” refers to someone who writes material that is often credited to someone else .  People who use ghostwriters for books, speeches, articles, and more, might get public attention for the work of others.  But at the end of the day, regardless of public opinion, the credit belongs to the ghostwriter.

Isaiah 26:12 says, “Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

God is my ghostwriter, and my life was made to point credit back to Him, not myself.

God is reminding me today that all the work I “accomplish” is actually His.  Anything I do that bears fruit for His kingdom is His fruit, done through His gifts, in His timing, and His Spirit.

So I can step out boldly, fearing neither my weakness nor my strength, because God is the glorious author of both.

What bold plans or goals are you facing right now?  Are you starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by what you can’t accomplish on your own?  What helps you to remember that God is ultimately the One accomplishing His purposes?  I hope you’ll share your ideas and perspective with the rest of us here!

And be sure to look out for How to Be a Moon on Amazon this Friday, July 13th!!!

  • Carrye, thank you for the reminder that God doesn’t call us to do the work then leave us alone in it. He’s right there with us . I know He’s asking me to step into what He has next for me. I’m taking baby steps because I think about the time commitment and I feel overwhelmed. But I don’t have to be overwhelmed because He will give me the time, energy and creativity to do the work as I rely on Him.

    • YES and YES!! I love how you put it. Now I just have to accept my own lesson. (Don’t you hate when you blog about something and then you can’t quite seem to live it out yourself?) I’ll keep praying that He gives you those baby next steps and the courage to take them.

  • I couldn’t help but add “Holy” ghostwriter 😉. It’s interesting and profoundly significant that in your early season of writing, God has given you this very foundation of reflecting Him in all you do and say and He will accomplish the best work in you in the process. I continue to be absolutely blown away at how He is increasing your impact on a daily basis. I’m more than proud of you …I’m over the moon proud of you. 😘

      • Jessica!! Thank you so much for that prayer. You have been a beautiful encourager to me, and I can’t wait to see what God does with your writing as well. 🙂
